Sandra Kolondam and Klaus Soppe seek to explore new boundaries and representational possibilities in representational, realistic painting. Based on Itten's color theory, they explore contrasts, colors, structure and light in their full potential. The effect of her artistic works lies in the eye and the subjective demands of the viewer and demands this in his observation. Accordingly, the exhibition title Augenwerk refers to seeing and playing with our visual perception. This is primarily about the use and mixing of colors in different and new techniques.
Klaus Soppe breaks down the painterly surface of the pictures into line grids and places pure colors next to each other, which then creates the perceptible halftones in the picture through an optical mixture. This was already partly used by the Pointillists at the beginning of the last century but was not consistently pursued. The use of complementary colors, which are dissolved in a fine and coarse line grid, also brings enormous luminosity to the paintings.
Sandra Kolondam's “Birch Forests” from her Realism/Hyperreal series develop a three-dimensional image effect through the precisely mixed placement of cold and warm colors. In her series Parallel Universes, the clever and at first glance confusing mixture of contrasting image content means that the viewer only notices at second glance that it is an abstract composition with an attractive spatial depth.
Sandra Kolondam and Klaus Soppe will be represented with the exhibition “Augenwerk” in the Artinnovation gallery from September 6th to October 8th, 2019.
